CVRD LTD ("CVRD") isn't legally required to publish a modern slavery statement yet, because we're below the turnover threshold. We publish one anyway: security work is a sector where labour exploitation happens, and clients should know how we prevent it on CVRD.
1. What CVRD does
CVRD is an online platform, based in London, that connects businesses needing security cover with SIA-licensed security operators. Operators are individuals who choose which jobs to accept. They work directly through CVRD: we don't use agencies, subcontractors or labour suppliers to provide operators.
2. Why this matters in security
Modern slavery and labour exploitation in UK security usually involve people working under someone else's licence, being paid through a third party who takes their wages, or being made to work unpaid hours to pay off a "debt". CVRD is designed so that none of these can happen on the platform.
3. How we prevent it
- Every operator is checked individually before they can be offered work: their SIA licence (in their own name), their right to work in the UK, and a photo proof of identity.
- The person who arrives is the licence holder. On every job, the operator checks in with a photo of themselves holding their SIA licence beside their face. The client sees it, so nobody can work under someone else's licence.
- Operators are paid directly, into a bank account in their own name through Stripe Connect. CVRD never pays a third party on an operator's behalf, and nobody else can collect their pay.
- Pay is shown before a job is accepted. Operators see what they'll earn on every offer, and they're paid as workers, with holiday pay included.
- Operators choose their own work. They set their own availability and travel distance, and they can decline any offer. There are no quotas, and nobody is made to accept a job.
- Nothing is charged to operators to join. No signup fees, deposits or equipment charges that could create a debt.
- Anyone can raise a concern in confidence (Section 5).
4. Our own suppliers
Our main suppliers are established technology and payment companies (for example Stripe, Supabase, Vercel and Cloudflare), each of which publishes its own approach to modern slavery. As we grow, we'll ask the suppliers we work with most closely to confirm they meet the standards in this statement.
5. Raising a concern
If you think someone working through CVRD is being exploited, forced to work or having their pay taken, tell us at hello@cvrd.uk, or use "Problem with this booking?" in the app during a job. We'll treat it confidentially and act on it, which can include suspending accounts and reporting to the police or the SIA.
You can also contact the Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700 (free, 24 hours), or the police on 999 if someone is in immediate danger.
6. Training and review
Everyone at CVRD who verifies operators or handles reports is trained to recognise the signs of exploitation. We'll review this statement at least once a year.
